Exploring Our Identities Beyond The Aesthetics
The South African fashion and arts scene has seen an exponential boom over the past few years. Local creatives and influencers are blazing a new trail and are taking advantage of the seemingly endless opportunities that the industry has to offer. There is no greater motivator than being surrounded by people who inspire you and are breaking new ground and shattering all ceilings that were placed to suppress one’s growth.
For months, I went back and forth on whether I should launch a site and what I could possibly contribute to a community filled with such astounding creatives. I questioned whether I had the ability to succeed but most importantly I wondered if I was going to bring anything new to the table. It then dawned on me that no one creative is the same and in an industry that is still growing, the people I surround myself with and admire are all projecting a unique flair that is a reflection of themselves. Frankly, this could not be any more exciting.
I realized that exploring our identities beyond the aesthetics is what makes for a diverse industry. It should be reiterated that we are not in competition with each other but rather that we all have something really unique to offer. A collaborative spirit rather than a competitive one will ensure that we take the industry to greater heights and attain international acclaim. We all have the same goal i.e. to elevate the industry to a new pantheon and even though our individual visions and paths will differ this goal will certainly be accomplished if we move as a collective.
I strive to create a space that allows for my individual growth all the while having open arms to collaborations that can move us forward.
Together is better.
