Over the past weekend, I had to pleasure of attending the Skip Fashion Exchange in Melrose Arch. It was my first time at the exchange so I wasn’t sure what to expect but most importantly what items of clothing I was going to take from my closet in hopes to swap them out for some fashionable item which will add a bit of life to my closet.
The Skip Fashion Exchange is an initiative aimed at having people come into a Skip pop up store and swap out their pre-owned garments for someone else’s pre-loved item. It’s a fun and cost free way of revamping your wardrope without breaking the bank.
How it works
1.) You select an item from your closet that you no longer wear but is still in good condition.
2.) Register on the http://skipfashionexchange.co.za so they have your details on hand for your arrival.
3.) Once you arrive to the selected pop up stores you head over to the counter where your selected items from your wardrobe get evaluated to see if they fit into either the ‘high street’, ‘premium’ or ‘luxury’ category. You will be given the relevant token for which category your item fits in.
4.)Once that is sorted you are free to roam around through an endless supply of fashionable items where you get to select what you like and just like that you’ve added a new item without even spending a single rand.
Upon arrival I was greeted with mimosas and delicious snacks that made the shopping experience that much more enjoyable. I was pleased to see how swift and easy the process was of examining my items and giving me a token to begin my shopping . The categories of items were placed in different areas , making it easy for one to navigate their way through the store. I loved how the vast selection of items on each rail was , I almost couldn’t believe that people no longer wanted to own any of these, I wanted them all. I had the chance to mingle with other guests and the ambassadors as well as pose for pics to show case my outfit of the day.Being given the VIP treatment memorable and exciting.
The ambassadors for this years exchange are actress Amanda Du Pont , Fashion blogger Palesa Mahlaba and TV presenter Roxy Burger. All three ladies exude a unique flair of style that stands out and gives many young ladies ( myself included) a lot of wardrobe envy.
I had a moment to catch up with Palesa who is thrilled to be part of this campaign and expressed her joy at how the blogging scene in SA is growing;
“It’s a great feeling knowing that people engage with your content and want to see more of it , it makes you feel like you’re getting somewhere and it’s not just something that’s seen as a hobby. It excites me when brands recognize us bloggers as an important tool to market their brand. it’s effective.”
I swapped out my vintage DKNY jumpsuit for the cutest light blue denim jacket, can you believe it’s my first ever denim jacket? so exciting.
The Pop Up Store is still happening in Melrose Arch till the 4th Sept so head on over and get exchanging! 🙂
